Advocate Job Description
Job Type: Part-time (0.7 FTE)
Salary: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour, commensurate with education and experience
Expected hours: 28 per week

RESPONSIBLE TO: Executive Director
SUMMARY STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Provide assistance to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking including but not limited to one-on-one, age-appropriate safety planning, positive support, advocacy, support groups, and community referrals. Perform outreach and community education as needed. Solicit donations for organizational fund-raising events. Function as a team member with other staff to ensure the efficient, effective operation of the organization.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Facilitate support groups in conjunction with the lead advocate.
Provide direct personal and legal advocacy to clients, including the creation of safety plans as required by funding, information, and referrals.
Assist clients with filing protective orders.
Answer the crisis line, conduct intake measures, make referrals, and arrange safe homing as needed and appropriate.
Provide telephone and direct advocacy to clients, including referrals.
Assist children and secondary victims with referrals to support groups and other services.
Identify, develop, and acquire holistic resources for clients.
Assure best practices in confidentiality and security of all client information.
Provide client intakes and needs assessments.
Act as a liaison between clients and community agencies as needed.
Maintain records and statistics as needed for grant reporting, including preparing and submitting grant reports as required by the Executive Director.
Network with other community service providers as necessary.
Provide community education through presentations and trainings.
Attend scheduled meetings and trainings.
Perform transitional housing/homeless program activities as necessary.
Other duties as requested by the Executive Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires an associate’s degree in Psychology, Criminal Justice, human services, or other closely related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 4 years may be substituted.
Training and related experience in advocacy and volunteer management.
Must have education or experience in positive discipline and parenting skills, and feel a strong commitment to working with and advocating for victims of violence.
Requires timely completion of a mandated 40-hour Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Advocacy training course or the ability to demonstrate equivalent experience in working with sexual assault and domestic violence.
Knowledge of sexual assault, domestic violence, community resources, and related laws is strongly preferred.
SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS:
Able to use Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Knowledge of and the ability to effectively use best practices and techniques for victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and homelessness.
Able to work with victims/survivors from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
Demonstration of a positive team attitude in the workplace.
Must pass a criminal background check.
Must have access to a telephone with adequate service coverage to operate crisis line.
Must have a valid driver’s license and appropriate insurance.
